Lithium-ion battery pack and series difference

Parallel and series connection of lithium battery packs are two common connection methods, and they have the following differences:

Parallel connection method: the positive electrode of a plurality of lithium battery packs is connected to the positive electrode, and the negative electrode is connected to the negative electrode to form a parallel battery pack. In a parallel connection, the current is shunt between the individual battery packs and the voltage remains constant. Parallel connection can increase the total capacity of the battery pack and provide greater current output capability, suitable for applications requiring high capacity or high power output.

Series connection method: the positive and negative terminals of a plurality of lithium battery packs are connected, and they are connected in series to form a series battery pack. In a series connection, the voltage accumulates between the individual battery packs while the total capacity remains the same. Series in series can increase the total voltage of the battery pack and is suitable for applications requiring higher voltage output.

By connecting in parallel, the total capacity of the battery pack can be increased, thus extending the service time or providing greater power output. Through the series connection, the total voltage of the battery pack can be increased, so as to meet the need for higher voltage equipment or systems.

It should be noted that when connecting in parallel or in series, it is necessary to ensure that the voltage, capacity and internal resistance of each battery pack are similar to maintain the charge balance between each battery pack and avoid overcharge, overdischarge or battery imbalance. In addition, appropriate safety measures need to be taken, such as the use of matching protection circuits and suitable connection wires, to ensure the safety and stability of the battery pack.
